Vehicle Maintenance Tracker dates reset to 1900 or 0001: keep your records

If every service in your Vehicle Maintenance Tracker log now says 1 January 1900 or 1 January 0001, you are not the only one. Here is what is known, what you can still save, and where Oilnote fits.

What people are reporting

Since the summer of 2026, App Store reviews of Vehicle Maintenance Tracker describe the same thing: the records are still there, but the dates are gone.

"I really liked it, but now all of the dates reset to Jan 01, 0001."App Store review, September 2026
"Recently all my dates are changed to 1-1-1900 so all that work is lost."App Store review, September 2026

The app has not been updated since June 2026, so there is no fix to wait for yet.

What you can do today

  1. Do not delete the app or its data yet. The odometer readings, service types, costs and notes are often still there even when the dates are wrong, and they are worth keeping.
  2. Look for an older export or backup. If you ever exported your log, that file still has the real dates.
  3. Export what is there now. Even with broken dates, a file of readings and costs is better than retyping them. Keep it somewhere you control, like Files or iCloud Drive.
  4. Fill in the dates you can recover from receipts, your email, the shop's records or the oil change sticker on the windshield.

Where Oilnote fits, and where it does not yet

We have not yet read a Vehicle Maintenance Tracker export file. We do not know its exact format, so we do not claim Oilnote imports it. As soon as we have tested a real one, this page will say so.
